Divination Vs Prophecy: How Terminology Blocks Direct Communication From God, and Why Christians Shut Down Around the Topic of Divination, Tarot, and Astrology

If we call ourselves God followers, we need to question more than we are getting offended. If we truly want to follow the direction God gives us, we must become open minded. Many Christians’ feel that connecting with God through any other form of communication than the Bible is wrong. But what if we could have daily guidance from God through Tarot, our dreams and other personal ways that God wants to speak to us? One place in the Bible where the significance of dreams is mentioned is Genesis 28:12-15. There are many more. When the Bible talks about seasons and even the stars, moon, and sun, all of this relates to astrology. It also relates to numerology, which is a big part of Tarot. I hope to encourage those who walk with God to question what they hear and seek truth for themselves. I recently posted a TikTok video and explained how Tarot and divination can actually enhance our relationship with God, not take away from it. The video sparked outrage among religious people, many of whom called me a witch. I got really curious then and did some research. I did a quick dictionary search and found that divination is described as “: the art or practice that seeks to foresee or foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers”. So, then I searched the word ‘prophet’ and got this description: “one who utters divinely inspired revelations:” again, from the Merriam Webster online. I have shared the references to these definitions at the end of this post.
After this, I did another google search. It seems that many Christians believe divination to be information coming from a negative source, while prophesy, which is essentially the same kind of information, is coming from one who has been divinely chosen. Many people were angry, assuming me to be saying that witchcraft and communicating with evil spirits was communication from God. In truth, these people likely don’t have anything other than the Bible verse that says not to practice divination or sorcery (Deuteronomy 18:10, Leviticus 20:27) to fuel their righteous anger. If sorcery is the practice of casting spells and attempting to use black magic to change the course of events or change people’s reality for personal gain, this is VERY different from using Tarot cards to ask God for guidance in life.
An interesting point to take into consideration is to ask yourself: who is doing the Tarot or astrology reading for you? Is it someone who also does spell work? Is it someone who claims to have power to change other people? I have seen some who offer their services to magically make someone fall in love with you. These kinds of workers are likely not coming from the light. On the other hand, is it someone who is aligned with the light and who wants to help you grow in your faith and connection to God? The Bible regularly talks of prophets and the divine messages they bring that speak of the future, as well as giving guidance to individuals and prophets. What a lot of Christian culture seems to have done is to label any form of intuitive guidance or psychic communication with things unseen, as witchcraft or as coming from the devil. I challenge you, if you have read this far, to ask God for an answer about this. An answer that doesn’t come from what your Church told you was right, but that comes directly from God. If we are to have individual relationships with a living God, is it time to become more open minded about the ways in which we may receive communication from him.
With all this being said, I’m excited to share that I will soon be offering my services and doing Tarot readings for individuals through my website. I also plan to offer new moon intention setting rituals, as well as full moon releasing rituals. My goal as an evolving therapist and speaker is to help individuals to attain their highest calling and find healing and wholeness within. Using the full moon and new moon to help us grow in our individual evolution can be powerful. The important thing to keep in mind is that we are not using these forms of divination or energy to control anyone but instead to grow in our own spirituality. #tarot #astrology #christianliving #prophecy #divination
